Coaching Report Card

Methodology

Every point deducted traces to a document.

We do not score coaching institutes on opinion, sentiment, or star ratings. Each institute begins at 100 on every criterion we can assess. Points come off only when a specific, published, citable fact triggers a published rule. The rules are below. So is every deduction.

The process

Five rules we do not break

  1. 01

    Only documents count

    An institute is graded only on facts that exist in a public record we can link to — a regulator's order, the institute's own published policy, a court or police filing, or a report in an established news outlet. Anonymous claims never move a score.

  2. 02

    Start at 100, deduct by rule

    Every criterion starts at 100. The deduction table above is fixed and applied identically to every institute. A criterion cannot fall below 0. We do not award bonus points, and we never adjust a score by judgement.

  3. 03

    Grade only what we can assess

    If there is no public record touching a criterion, that criterion is marked Not assessed — not 100, and not 0. The overall score is the average of assessed criteria only, and every card states how many of the six were assessed.

  4. 04

    Student reports are counted, never scored

    Complaints submitted to this site are published as counts, clearly separated from the public record. They do not affect any score. They tell you how many people reported a problem; they do not tell you a regulator agreed.

  5. 05

    Right of reply, and correction

    Any institute may send a response or a correction. Corrections are made promptly and logged publicly with the date. A reply we receive is published on the institute's page in full, unedited.

This table is applied identically to every institute. No rule is invented for a particular case, and no score is adjusted by hand. A criterion cannot fall below 0.

What this cannot tell you

The limits of these grades

A rating is only honest if it says what it cannot do. These are ours.

  • A high score is not an endorsement. It means we found no adverse public record — not that none exists.
  • A low score reflects the record we could document. An institute with no regulatory history may still be failing its students, and would appear here ungraded.
  • Regulatory aggregates cited on this site are dated, because they change as new orders are issued.
  • We are not a court and we do not adjudicate. Where a matter is disputed or sub judice, we say so.
